Monday Survival Kit

March 14, 2018

A new week is upon us! Another Monday. Already? I must admit that when I slide out of bed on many Monday mornings I have the Carpenters “Rainy Days and Mondays” rolling through my head. Am I the only one?

I am nearing the end of my first year in full time girls ministry.
Can I just admit to you that I am tired?

Can I be honest and share with you that my heart is full and equally burdened as I have lived these day with my girls?

I blinked and 12 months have passed.

I often start new weeks without having processed the one before.
It is easy to get bogged down in the schedule, turn into a girls ministry robot and just “get through” weeks and months.

I recently created for myself a mental “Monday Survival Kit”.
A way for me to start my weeks out with more purpose.

The contents? Let’s unpack them.

Be Still

What better way to start out a new week than to sit at the feet of Jesus?

Care out some time early in the day for personal study and prayer with the Lord.
Fix your eyes on Jesus.
Surrender your hours, days, and week to Him.

One song that the Lord has used immensely to encourage me in this season is “Before You I Kneel (A Worker’s Prayer)” by Keith & Kristyn Getty.

Get A Grip

I have a scattered to-do list in my brain as I end each week and begin another. I often find myself worried that I am going to forget to return a phone call to a parent, not reserve the bus for camp or not follow up with one of my girls who requested prayer.

The best way to handle this?

For me - I sit down and organize my thoughts. I make a list.
And throughout the rest of my week I work through it.

It lessens the load of my brain and makes me more productive for the rest of the week!

It is also cute and color coded - which certainly enhances the fun of it.

Talk It Out

The Lord has surrounded me with some of the wisest that walk the earth.

As a young woman in ministry I often battle pride and struggle to let go of the appearance that I have it all together and need no assistance.
Guess what? I don’t have it all together. I need help.

I carve out time to seek wisdom each week. To talk through difficult circumstances with trusted staff and mentors.

This helps me to process and in huge ways helps others keep me accountable.

We were created for biblical community. We were created to walk through these days together. Let’s make time for that!

Friends – I pray that this Monday is one that you can look back on and see that you didn’t sink into a pit or get overwhelmed– but rather a day that you used to seek Jesus, refocus and prepare for what the Lord has in store for you in the days ahead.

I love you-
Amy
